Controlled Drugs Recovered During Multi-Agency Operation.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), through its Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit, in collaboration with the Customs & Excise Department, continues its commitment to disrupting the illegal importation of controlled substances into Saint Lucia.
On Friday, 8 August 2025, officers of the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit, alongside Customs and Excise personnel, executed a joint operation at Shed 6, Port Castries, following intelligence regarding a suspicious inbound shipment.
During the operation, Alston Singh, a resident of Bonneterre, presently residing in Babonneau, presented himself to clear a barrel consigned in his name. Upon examination, five (5) tins labelled as “dried fruit” were discovered. Due to recent seizures of controlled drugs concealed in similar packaging, officers conducted a more thorough inspection.
One (1) tin was opened in the presence of law enforcement officials, revealing a quantity of compressed green plant material. A field test confirmed the substance to be cannabis. In total, officers recovered 2.58 kilograms of compressed marijuana, with an estimated street value of fifty-one thousand, six hundred (XCD $51,600) dollars.
Charges
As a result of this operation, Singh was charged with the following offences:
Importation of Controlled Drugs – Section 5, Drug (Prevention of Misuse) Act of Saint Lucia. Possession with Intent to Supply – Drug (Prevention of Misuse) Act.
Fraudulent Evasion – Section 116(2) (b), Customs Act, under provisions prescribed in Section 84(2) Schedule 3 – Part 2 Paragraph 5.
Goods Improperly Imported – Section 32(1) (b) (d) (f), Customs Act, under provisions prescribed in Section 84(2) Schedule 3 – Part 2 Paragraph 5.
Court Proceedings
On Wednesday, 13 August 2025, Singh appeared before the First District Court where he was granted bail in the sum of thirty thousand (XCD $30,000) dollars, cash or suitable surety. And other court conditions.
Investigations have revealed Alton Singh was also implicated in a December 5th, 2024 case involving the seizure of Marijuana by-products and MDMA (Ecstasy) concealed in a shipment at a courier facility in Castries. That matter remains under review in relation to the present investigations.
