Sally Introduces “Aligned”: A New Chapter in Music

She’s spent over two decades commanding stages across Saint Lucia and beyond… resorts, jazz festivals, national competitions, duets and more!. Now, with her new single “Aligned,” the artist formerly billed as Sally Elwin steps out simply as Sally. We sat down with her to talk about the song, the shedding of a name, and what it really means to be “aligned.”

You’ve performed for over twenty years as Sally Elwin. Now you’re just Sally. What’s behind that shift?

For more than two decades, people have known me as Sally Elwin, and I’m grateful for every chapter of that journey. But this season of my life is about returning to who I truly am. I wanted to identify with the name I was born with, not a surname that was never really mine to begin with. It’s part of finding myself, embracing my identity, and stepping into my own power. Rebranding as simply Sally feels authentic, freeing, and deeply personal.

Let’s talk about “Aligned.” What was the seed of this song?

The seed of Aligned was planted after I went through a major operation. During that time, my life really flashed before my eyes, and I was reminded just how fragile life is. It made me reflect on what truly matters, peace, purpose, healing, and gratitude. I wanted to write a song that captured that journey and encouraged others to embrace life with intention.

There’s a beautiful image in the first verse, looking in the mirror and telling yourself it’s okay. Was that a literal moment for you?

Yes, it absolutely was. There were days when I stood in front of the mirror and spoke life over myself. I’ve always believed in the power of speaking things into being, and during my struggles with anxiety, telling myself, “It’s okay,” became part of my healing. Those simple words gave me comfort and gradually became something I truly believed.

“Every scar tells the story I survived.” What scar were you thinking of when you wrote that?

I was thinking about the scar from my hysterectomy in November 2025. It was the first major operation I’d ever had, and it changed me in more ways than one. Every time I see that scar, I’m reminded that life is precious and fragile. It reminds me that we’re not promised tomorrow, and that surviving something difficult gives you a new appreciation for every day you’re blessed with.

The second verse has this gorgeous shift “I used to rush, tryna beat the time, now I trust the process.” Where did that patience come from?

That line comes from a very real change in my life. I was always rushing, running out the door, trying to stay ahead of everything. Then someone said something that stayed with me: “Sally, slow down. Whatever you’re rushing to will still be there when you’re gone.” That really hit me. I started taking time to sit down, enjoy breakfast, breathe, and simply be present. That’s when I learned to trust the process instead of trying to outrun life.

You sing, “I release the weight I used to hold.” What weight are you carrying lighter these days?

For a long time, I carried everyone else’s burdens. I worried about other people’s problems, often putting their needs before my own. These days, I’m learning that it’s okay to step back, protect my peace, and make time for myself. You can’t pour from an empty cup, and I’ve finally given myself permission to refill mine.

If “Aligned” had a signature drink, what would it be?

(Laughs.) Without a doubt.. a Ponche Carib over lots of ice. It’s refreshing, smooth, and something you enjoy slowly, just like the message of Aligned. It’s about slowing down and savoring the moment.

What’s a ritual that actually gets you aligned before a show?

Breathing. Deep, intentional breathing helps calm my nerves and centers me before I walk on stage. It allows me to quiet everything around me and focus on why I’m there to connect with people through music.

If Sally at 19, just starting out, could hear this song, what would she think?

I think she’d be proud. Even at 19, I knew I was an individual with a dream and a clear sense of purpose. I believe she’d listen to Aligned and see that I never gave up on becoming the woman I was meant to be. She’d know that every challenge along the way was worth it.

What do you want a woman listening to “Aligned” on a hard day to walk away with?

I want her to walk away feeling hopeful, purposeful, and reminded that she is exactly where she’s supposed to be. I want her to know it’s okay to take up space, to choose herself, and to treat herself with kindness and grace. Healing isn’t a straight line, and that’s okay. Every step forward matters. My hope is that Aligned reminds her that she is stronger than she realizes, and that her story is still being written.
