She Got Louder: How Saint Lucia’s Mica Turned Rejection Into Her Boldest Era

There’s a version of this story where Mica takes the loss quietly. Where missing out on Groovy, Power, and Calypso Monarch this season sends her back into the studio smaller, more cautious, more careful. That’s not the version that happened.

“LOUD” was one of the songs she brought into competition, the one she went hardest on, entering solo for the first time. She didn’t qualify. But the record didn’t disappear with the loss; tonight, it arrives as a video, and it plays like a direct answer to anyone who counted her out. And if the title didn’t already make it plain: Mica has no intention of shrinking..

The Sound of Not Caring

Ask Mica what “LOUD” is really about, and she doesn’t talk about the hook first. She talks about freedom.

“Loud leans towards being seen, but heard louder by your presence,” she says. “A force to be reckoned with.”

It’s a song built on confidence, yes.. but a specific kind. Not performative, not borrowed. The kind that comes from deciding, finally, not to care what anybody thinks.

What the Rejection Really Felt Like

Before the video, before the buzz, there was the sting of not qualifying. Mica doesn’t dress that part up.

“To be honest, I was emotional and disappointed, and I questioned myself,” she admits. “I knew I did well, so why not me?”

What pulled her back wasn’t a pep talk she gave herself in the mirror, it was community. Calls from family. Messages from coworkers. Words of encouragement from people she didn’t even know were paying attention. And somewhere in that noise, a reframe took hold.

“This happened for a reason. Probably there’s opportunities for me, maybe I need to use this time and capitalize on growing my fan base.”

That’s not a woman who lost. That’s a woman recalculating.

Coming Back Harder

This season, Mica competed alone for the first time, with no duet partner to share the weight. And she leaned into the pressure instead of running from it.

“My mission was to come harder than last year,” she says. “I knew I had to come good and hard, in every genre.” She’s confident the “LOUD” video is the receipt: proof of exactly how hard she went when nobody handed her a spot.

Inside the Studio: A Song That Almost Didn’t Exist

The making of “LOUD” is its own story of collaboration and near-misses. It started with a riddim from Vibez Production and a concept from writer Garner Raymond, originally penned from a man’s point of view. From there, Imran Magloire and Mica went to work reshaping the lyrics and melody until the record actually sounded like her.

Then producer Miguel Joseph scrapped the whole riddim for something new.

“At first I didn’t like it, because the old riddim was stuck in my head,” Mica laughs. “But after some time, I started liking it.” By the time she stepped into Major Records to lay vocals, Arthur Allain had joined the process too, building the intro hook and coaching her through the performance. “His guidance was fantastic,” she says simply.

Sounding Like Saint Lucia… On Her Own Terms

People love to compare her to artists from bigger islands. Mica has heard it plenty, and she’s not interested in the comparison.

“I sound like Mica, a girl from St. Lucia. And yes, we can sound just as good as the foreign artists.”

It’s a small sentence carrying a bigger point: representation isn’t just about being from somewhere. It’s about refusing to shrink your sound to fit somewhere else’s mold.

Her road here wasn’t a straight line, either. In 2024, producer Miguel Joseph came looking for a female artist to develop Mica’s name came up through her cousin and a friend. At the time she was singing calypso and doing hotel gigs, quietly collecting good reviews and calling herself a versatile singer with no single genre she owed loyalty to. She almost didn’t say yes.

“I was hesitant, because I know life as an artist is not easy when you don’t have the resources,” she says. “But I tried anyway. It’s difficult, but the challenge; I know it will begin to pay off.”

The Moment She Knew “LOUD” Would Land

Every artist remembers the first sign that a record is different. For Mica, it wasn’t the studio playback. It was rehearsal.

“The first really good review.. when I knew ‘LOUD’ was a hit, was from semi-finals rehearsal, when the musicians themselves were feeling it,” she recalls. “It sounds much better live. Nothing beats live music.” Now that the video’s out, the feedback keeps rolling in.. including from people she hasn’t heard from in a while, reaching out just to share the song.

What She’s Claiming Next

Ask Mica where she sees herself a year from now, and she doesn’t reach for a five-point plan. She reaches for faith.

“I don’t know what plans God has for me, but I feel it in my soul that my voice and talent were given to me to touch people, and for greatness. Whatever it is that’s coming for me in terms of greatness — I claim it. Bigger stages, I claim it. Bookings, I claim it.”

Say it louder for the people in the back. She already did.
